Reminiscing college

Last Saturday, I attended the wedding of Nympha and Leo Godoy. Nympha is one of my best friends in college. The two first got married in Las Vegas in 1995. After 10 yrs and 3 kids, they decided to renew their vows in the Philippines.

While waiting for the bride and groom at the reception, naalala ko bigla yung day one ko sa colegio. It was a rainy June afternoon in 1987. At first, kinabahan ako kasi baka panay boys ang classmates ko. When I entered the room, it was already filled with students. There I saw 6 girls (nene pa sila non) among more than 40 boys. Yung 2 girls na parang may pagka-sossy eh parang long-time friends na. I learned later that Au and Angie are classmates from St. Paul’s. Opposite them are 2 young women who are obviously not the first time to be together. Magka-eskwela din pala si Jane and Ann nung highschool in one of the private schools in Sta. Cruz. Kaming 3 natitirang babae stayed together, palibhasa pare-parehong mga probinsyana. Taga-Bulacan kami ni Nympha. Glenda naman is from Bataan.

When Nympha got to her dorm later that afternoon, she found out that Sayk, one of her dorm mates is actually Glenda's high school classmate. Dun na nagsimula ang barkadahan namin. It was made even stronger when Glenda and I moved to Sayk and Nympha's dorm. Pati yung ibang classmates nila Glenda nad Sayk nung highschool eh naging ka-barkada din namin.

After our first yr, naging magkakaiba na ang schudules namin but at the end of the day, kami pa rin yung magkakasama. Nagkaron din kami ng kanya-kanyang grupo but we would always consider our barkadahan as special.

After college, I lost contact with others except for Glenda. Taga-Bulacan kasi yung nakatuluyan nya. Marissa settled in Bataan while Nympha moved to the US. Akala ko mabubuo kaming 4 nung Saturday kaso may commitment naman si Marissa. Si Glenda and dear husband Joel lang ang nakasama ko. It feels so good to see Nympha again even for a short while. Halos di sya nagbago. Hindi nawala yung mga mannerisms nya at nandon pa rin yung pagiging Ms. Prim & Proper nya. When we started chatting, it seems that no time was lost. Parang kahapon lang eh nasa tabi kami ng mga pader ng Intramuros.

I made a lot of friends since then but I will always cherish our friendship.
